1969 Topps Team Posters
Checklist & Values
The 1969 Topps Team Posters set was made up of 24 large
11 1/4" x 19 3/4" colorful posters, 1 for each team.
The posters, the largest printed item by Topps to date,
were very colorful picturing 9 or 10 players with their facsimile autographs.
The Posters were sold one per pack at .10 cents each.
Because they were folded many times and usually placed on walls
with tape or pins, high grade posters are very scarce.

1972 Manama
Official Postage Stamps
These beautiful official government issued postage stamps from
Manama were made of a plastic like material and used a an advanced
printing technique to show multiple images as the card was moved.
This technique was later used on a baseball card issue called
"Sportflics".
Each of these postage stamps pictured 2 different players as the
stamp was titled. There were 8 different stamps issued, 4 with
American player-combos and 4 with Japanese player-combos.
A special stamp picturing BABE RUTH alongside the famous
Yankees "MURDERS ROW" was also issued and appears to be
significantly scarcer than the others.

1960 Leaf Baseball Cards
The 1960 Leaf baseball card set featured 144 regular-sized high-gloss
photo quality cards. Back then Topps had a monopoly on baseball cards
packaged with gum or candy so Leaf packaged their cards with marbles.
The marbles were from Sports Novelties Inc. and the cards, called
1960 Leaf, bear copyrights by Sports Novelties Inc.
Hall of Famers Luis Aparicio, Orlando Cepeda and Jim Bunning were the
top stars in the set. The set came in two series, with the second
series high numbers (#73-#144) produced in very limited quantities.
Scarcest card in the set is the corrected version of Jim
'Mudcat' Grant (#25). The more common error variation pictured
Brooks Lawrence on the front with Jim Grant's info on back.
To promote this set, Leaf also produced (8) very scarce Big-Head
PROOF variations.
There were also (3) different variations of the back of Hal Smith's
card #58. Leaf also produced (8) very scarce and extremely expensive,
Big-Head PROOF variations to promote their set.

How long have sports cards been around ? (part 2)
The first important and mainstream basketball set was issued by Bowman in 1948.
Other than a Topps set in 1957-58 and a 1961-62 Fleer set, there were no
mainstream basketball sets issued until Topps started producing yearly sets
beginning with their 1969-70 set featuring the rookie card of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
who then went under the name of Lew Alcindor.
In hockey, there were a few sets issued in the 1910's and while O-Pee-Chee issued
some sets in the 1930's, the real modern sets began in 1951 with the itroduction
of Parkhurst's first set.
In racing, while cards go back as far as the early Indy car days of 1911,
modern racing sets began in 1988 with the issues released by MAXX.
