1954 Topps Scoops

1954 Topps Scoops 1954 Topps Scoops squeezes 1,000 years of history into a sharp (156) card set. The cards, slightly smaller 2-1/16" x 2-15/16", were released in (2) (78) card series. Each card had a colorful painting and caption with date on front. Some were issued with a scratch-off area meant hiding the headline so some cards are found with and without the coating. 1954 Topps Scoops Coated 1954 Scoops covered many major events & people throughout history. Mostly a non-sports set, many top sports stars like Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Notre Dame's Four Horsemen, Joe Louis, Bob Feller and Ben Hogan were included. 1954 Topps Scoops Pack
1954 Topps Scoops Ruth Backs are similar to a newspaper's front page with newspaper's name, headline, date & location at top. The set seemed to focus on disasters like the San Francisco Earthquake, Fire Sweeps Chicago, Rome Burned, Pompeii Destroyed (#91); and wars: Battleship Maine Blown Up, Alamo Falls, U.S. Troops Reach France, World War II Begins, Victory in Europe & Napoleon Loses at Waterloo plus many other events that shaped the world.

1960 Nu-Card Baseball Hi-Lites
Checklist & Prices

This 72-card set of large (3-1/4" x 5-3/8") cards called 'Hi-Lites' were issued by Nu-Card, Inc. Printed in red and black, the card fronts resembled a newspaper front page headline with photo.

The backs had trivia questions with answer and also sent you to another card with more info.

Cards #1-#18 can also be found with just black printing and blank-backed. They are quite rare ! The last time I checked, out of (200) 1960 Nu-Cards on eBay, NONE were the black only variations ! Other than #1 Ruth, black only cards are nearly identical differing only in print color and copyright. The black only cards had a "CVC" copyright while the regular black/red issue was "NCI" (Nu-Card Inc.).

1960 Fleer Baseball Cards

1960 Fleer Baseball Box The 1960 Fleer baseball set contained 79 regular-sized cards honoring the careers of Hall-of-Famers like Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Lou Gehrig, Honus Wagner, Ted Williams and more !!!

Fleer was prevented from using current players by Topps' exclusive rights, so they issued their Baseball Greats set using retired players, managers, executives and the two league commissioners. Luckily Fleer had their own exclusive rights deal with Ted Williams, who quickly became the most in demand card in the set. Unfortunately the weak card design and retired players made it a giant dud with kids and the product was not well received.

There are very scarce variations with Joe Tinker,Eddie Collins & Lefty Grove fronts, all with #80 Pepper Martin backs. They are usually found cancelled or hand-cut from sheets. Likely Pepper Martin's card was pulled due to contract issues. The variations are not considered part of the complete set.
