1956 Topps Football

1956 Topps Football Box After they acquired Bowman, Topps issued its first NFL licensed football set issuing (120) brightly colored cards. Team cards were a nice new addition to the earlier Bowman offerings. Also issued was a checklist and (5) special contest cards. Most of these special cards were either tossed away or sent in to win prizes making them quite difficult to find.

Like its early 1950's baseball issues, these cards measured in at 2-5/8" x 3-3/4", sligtly larger than the regular modern issued cards.

Each team had (9) player cards and the team card. To make the number of cards work with the card-sheet size, Topps printed all the cards twice on each sheet, EXCEPT the Washington Redskins and Chicago Cardinals who were short printed (single printed)and are more difficult to find. 1956 Topps Football 1 cent Pack 1956 Topps Football 5 cent Pack Top Rookies: Lenny Moore, Roosevelt Brown, Joe Schmidt, Bill George... 1956 Topps Football Moore

1955 Topps Double-Headers (Doubleheaders)
Baseball Cards Set checklist/info

1955 Topps Double Header 1955 Doubleheader Irvin Without a doubt my FAVORITE SET - PERIOD. Regular issue, test issues, inserts ... whatever ... this is # 1 !!!

Similar to the early 1900's Mecca Double Folders, these colorful 2-1/16" x 4-7/8" cards are actually 2-cards-in-1 ! Perforated in the center, you can fold to create cards of 2 different players. Unperforated 1955 Topps DoubleHeaders exist. 1955 Doubleheader pack All 132 players (66 cards) in the 1955 Topps DoubleHeaders set were also in the regular 1955 Topps set, with the same action image.
1955 Doubleheader set NOTE: Laid side-by-side the cards form spectacular scenes from actual stadiums !!!
Old-timers - can you identify the stadiums ?

ROOKIES:

1969 Topps Football Four-in-One

1969 Topps Football Box Thru the late 1960's, early 1970's, Topps continued to try new things as test issues and inserts. 1969 was no different and along came the 1969 Topps Football Four-in-Ones. Each card was a perforated panel of (4) mini-cards. Special mini-card albums were also issued as inserts to hold the mini-cards. Each album had room for a complete team set of (10) mini-cards.
1969 Topps Football mini-card There was one variation in which print color and background on Bill Triplett's and Charlie Johnson's mini-cards varied. Interestingly, a few of the players on these mini-cards never appeared on their own regular card .
