1954 Topps Scoops

1954 Topps Scoops squeezes 1,000 years of history into a sharp (156) card set. The cards, slightly smaller 2-1/16" x 2-15/16", were released in (2) (78) card series. Each card had a colorful painting and caption with date on front. Some were issued with a scratch-off area meant hiding the headline so some cards are found with and without the coating. 1954 Scoops covered many major events & people throughout history. Mostly a non-sports set, many top sports stars like Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Notre Dame's Four Horsemen, Joe Louis, Bob Feller and Ben Hogan were included.
Backs are similar to a newspaper's front page with newspaper's name, headline, date & location at top. The set seemed to focus on disasters like the San Francisco Earthquake, Fire Sweeps Chicago, Rome Burned, Pompeii Destroyed (#91); and wars: Battleship Maine Blown Up, Alamo Falls, U.S. Troops Reach France, World War II Begins, Victory in Europe & Napoleon Loses at Waterloo plus many other events that shaped the world.

1975 Topps Baseball Cards
Checklist & Values

The first think you notice about Topps 1975 baseball cards is their very colorful and thinck borders, many say TOO colorful, TOO thick. Anyway, this set doesn't show up on too many best designed baseball card lists.
But what it lacked in design, it made up in other ways. First was the AWESOME ROOKIE cards for Hall-of-Famers George Brett, Robin Yount, Jim Rice, Fred Lynn and Gary Carter.
Then there was the SUPER POPULAR MVP subset. One of my favorite Topps subsets, there were now many great cards picturing players like Mickey Mantle & Willie Mays.
It didn't stop there. There were several Record Breaker cards featuring greats like Hank Aaron & Nolan Ryan. Plus the always loved League Leaders cards and even more .
AND THE BEST PART --- 1975 Topps Minis !!! Yes, a whole new set, exactly the same, but a slightly smaller size !!!

Are sports cards valuable ?

Like all collectibles, over time some sports cards go down in value, others go up and some can even become very valuable. Card values are based on many factors: player popularity, scarcity, condition & collector interest. A card can be scarce but without demand value may not be great.

* Cards of your favorite team "TEAM SETS"
* Rookie cards
* Hall-of-Famer cards
* I even had a girlfriend that collected Don Mossi (checkout his ears), players whose last name start with "Z", and the Brett brothers George & Ken (she had a crush on George).
* "TYPE COLLECTING" (everyone should at least do a little of this !)

"Type Collecting"
is collecting at least one of each different "type" of issue. On scarcer issues you can add a less expensive common while on others you can select your favorite player or team.
