1974 Topps & Parker Brothers FootballIn 1974, along with cards in wax packs, Topps also issued the football cards used in Parker Brothers' "Pro Draft" board game. The (50) Parker Brothers cards are skip numbered from the 1st 132 Topps cards and are all offensive players, mostly from the skill positions.Most Parker Brothers cards are similar to the ones from packs except on the back where most Parker Brothers cards had 1972 stats instead of 1973 and (2)* rather than (1)* in the copyright line. BUT NOTE: Some regular Topps cards have both * and ** --- It's complicated! Six of the cards have totally different designs; three All-Pros and three with horizontal designs that were changed to vertical to match the rest of the cards.
Team checklist cards were randomly included in the Topps wax packs.

1954 Topps Scoops squeezes 1,000 years of history into a sharp (156) card set.
The cards, slightly smaller 2-1/16" x 2-15/16", were released in (2)
(78) card series. Each card had a colorful painting and caption
with date on front. Some were issued with a scratch-off area meant
hiding the headline so some cards are found with and without the
coating.
1954 Scoops covered many major events & people throughout history.
Mostly a non-sports set, many top sports stars like Babe Ruth,
Jesse Owens, Notre Dame's Four Horsemen, Joe Louis, Bob Feller
and Ben Hogan were included.
Backs are similar to a newspaper's front page with newspaper's name,
headline, date & location at top. The set seemed to focus on
disasters like the San Francisco Earthquake, Fire Sweeps Chicago,
Rome Burned, Pompeii Destroyed (#91); and wars: Battleship Maine
Blown Up, Alamo Falls, U.S. Troops Reach France, World War II
Begins, Victory in Europe & Napoleon Loses at Waterloo plus many
other events that shaped the world.
Grade/Condition Centering, corner wear, photo clarity, edges, creases, print flaws ... all combine to determine a card's condition or grade. Along with rarity/scarcity it is the major factor in a card's value.
Graded Card As values increased the condition of cards and the determination of fakes and alterations became increasingly more important. Various companies became "graders" of your cards. For a fee they would grade your card (usually on a 1 to 10 scale) and then placed in a sealed plastic holder with labelling of the vital information.
From past experiences, most people are NOT HAPPY with the grades they receive. To keep values up, graders can be extremely picky. Things you don't see, they do so don't be surprized when the NEAR MINT card you send in ends up with an EX or EX/MINT grade.
There are TOO many grading companies - if you do, do choose carefully. PSA / SGC / GAI / BGS are some of the many companies. It is good to know that getting a card graded by a company that people do not recognize or respect will usually just cost you time and money and not help you in any way.
