1966 Topps Rub-Offs COMPLETE MASTER STRIP
20 different Rub-Offs with Sandy Koufax and 4 other Hall-of-Famers !

From the days when inserts were neat !!! 1966 Topps Rub-Offs have colorful, attractive pictures, which by rubbing the reverse side with a coin (quarters worked best), could be applied to surfaces like desks, books or walls. YEAH - A great item for kids - a HUGE nightmare for parents and teachers !!!

In 1961 Topps issued a similar item called "Magic Rub-Offs". There were 36 different in that set. Topps went way further with their 1966 issue of (120) rub-offs (100 players & 20 pennants). The rub-offs were inserts, one per 1966 Topps wax pack. The 2-1/6 inch by 3 inch rub-offs were printed in rolls of 20 different.

Apparently some kids placed rub-offs of certain players on their bats to help them hit like the player. I wish I would have known ... I could have used the help.

1972 O-Pee-Chee Baseball

Also referred to as OPC or Topps Canada, most vintage OPC sets were near replicas of the Topps cards from that year. Exactly same in design they usually only differed with the addition of French to the backs and some fronts.
1972 OPC #465 Gil Hodges

Cards differed from their Topps versions mostly due to "Made in Canada", French/English and different colored backs. the sets, such as "Boyhood Photos" and "In Action" cards. Card #465 Gil Hodges is the only card differing significantly from its corresponding Topps card, which notes his April of 1972 death. First Time features were "Boyhood Photos" and "In Action" cards. The O-Pee-Chee cards can be distinguished from Topps cards by This was also the first year the cards denoted O.P.C. in the copyright line rather than T.C.G. There is one card in the set which is notably different from the corresponding Topps, Gil Hodges #465, which notes his death in April on the OPC card.

TOP ROOKIE: Carlton Fisk is the only rookie of note.

Baseball card collecting terms (part D-F)

Die-Cut A special card that differs from a basic card by "Die-Cutting", cutting away portions of the card to create a special design. Most are serially numbered & limited.

Error Card Baseball card history is filled with error cards, many of them very interesting. Hank Aaron is on 2 of my favorite error cards. Aaron's 1956 Topps card action photo shows Aaron sliding home but it is actually Willie Mays not Aaron. Topps again goofed on Aaron's 1957 "reversed negative" card showing Aaron batting left-handed.

"Error Cards" are usually found early in print runs and often corrected. When this correction happens a VARIATION is created. Some variations are extremely interesting and very expensive while others are totally boring and you wonder why they were even made.

Extended Set Also frequently called Update Set or Traded Set.
They are sets issued after the original release to update the regular set with new and traded players.

Facsimile Autograph is an autograph printed on a card to show what the player's actual signature looks like. They are not "real" autographs.

Factory Set are complete sets usually in special boxes produced by the manufacturer. "Hand-Collated Sets" are sets collectors have put together card by card from packs.
