1954 Topps Baseball Cards
Checklist & Values

No only did the 1954 Topps issue feature the rookie cards of some of the greatest baseball players of all-time, it also was the 1st appearance of Ted Williams on a Topps card. Topps was so proud of this they made Ted the FIRST (#1) and LAST (#250) card in the set.
1954 Topps was released in three different series, (#1-50), a tougher mid-series (#51-75), and finally (#76-250). Of note for fans of variations, first series cards were issued in Canada with gray backs.
ROOKIE cards of future Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Al Kaline & Ernie Banks along with cards of SuperStars Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Jackie Robinson and tons more !!!

1957 Topps Baseball Cards
Checklist & Values

1957 was the beginning of the modern era of baseball cards and their to this day standard size of 2-1/2" x 3-1/2". Many collectors consider the 1957 set the most attractive of the 1950's sets. Of note is a fun error card picturing Hank Aaron batting left-handed. The error was never corrected so there is no extra value.
The set included some very neat multi-player cards and was PACKED with ROOKIES !!!

1969 Ajman & Manama
Official Postage Stamps

In 1969, Ajman & Manama made baseball card collector's happy with their official government issued baseball "Champions of Sports" stamps with 6 of the greatest stars ever: Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Honus Wagner & George Sisler. Manama and Ajman stamps are neqarly the same except for color and country. The pictured notice from the Ajman post office stated stamp sheets & sets were limited with & w/o perforations. How long have sports cards been around ? (part 1)

The first baseball trading cards date back to 1869. For many years, baseball cards were packaged in packs of tobacco as a way to increase sales the same way that today prizes are packaged in boxes of cereal. In the 1920's and 1930's, candy and gum companies started packaging baseball cards in their products as well.

Baseball card production was virtually halted in the early 1940's due to paper shortages created by World War II. The "Modern Era" of baseball cards began in 1948 when Bowman Gum Inc. offered one card and one piece of gum in a pack for a penny.

The first important football set was the Mayo set featuring college players in 1984. Other than the 1935 National Chicle set no other key football set was issued until 1948 when noth Bowman and Leaf produced sets.
